Supercomputing (HPC) and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP)

$0.00

ESS Weathertech are well versed in the supply and install of High-Performance Computer (HPC) clusters, typically in addition with associated Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) forecast models implemented on aforementioned clusters.

ESS has been involved in several projects internationally installing racks of supercomputers with modelling for a variety of governmental weather bureaus in countries including Nepal and Bangladesh; furthermore an HPC system with a coupled Forecast Guidance System for Pakistan.

HPC has the capacity to provide short term weather forecast by establishing an operational high-resolution local area NWP system to provide improved guidance for weather forecasting and to help assessment of rapidly developing severe weather situations.

Outcomes of an implemented HPC system include a platform to provide NWP leading to output including but not limited to, flood forecasting and flood risks, severe weather and heavy monsoonal rain events, and thunderstorms - all which help to improve alert and data services.

These abilities of an HPC coupled with NWP are very beneficial to weather services and governmental weather bureaus around the globe.
