EEC radar systems represent a significant investment in time, people and money. Keeping systems operable 24/7 is key to keeping the public, environment and assets safe from mother natures extremes. ESS plays an important support role for EEC being the 24/7 call centre operator and global support centre for EEC activities in Australia, Asia and the Pacific. ESS radar experts are also called on to support radar installations, servicing or upgrades in Europe and the Americas making ESS a true global radar support provider.
ESS is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $2.4 million contract by Japan Radio Company (JRC) to implement a new comprehensive weather forecasting and warning system for Samoa. The project is funded by the Government of Japan Grant Aid program and implemented by JRC. In its component of the project, ES&S will be installing and commissioning new meteorological data processing systems, any early warning system, a vertical profiler for atmospheric soundings and a climate monitoring system. It is planned to commission the new systems in March 2012 after a comprehensive commissioning and training program.
ESS recently completed the installation of a Telesto COMS-1 groundstation from EEC’s Telespace division at the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) in Laos. This system gives the Laos DMH the ability to acquire, process and visualize direct broadcast geostationary satellite data from the Korean Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite, (COMS-1). The Telesto system allows for real-time access to COMS-1 data, supporting the improved early detection of and responses to severe weather and climate events in Laos.
This mobile Ranger X-band radar system from EEC was integrated onto a rugged trailer based platform with the assistance of ESS Weathertech's radar technicians on location in Indonesia. Amazingly, for rapid deployment country wide, this highly mobile design fits inside a C130 Hercules with the car hitched up.
